Bucks County weekend: Celebrate Valentine's Day with shows, museums & more

It's Valentine's Day weekend, and whether you're single and ready to mingle or in a committed relationship, we've got you covered with ways to celebrate the holiday.

Looking for a romantic date night or a fun night out with friends? Take a guided evening tour of the historic Fonthill Castle, the home of Henry Chapman Mercer and an early example of reinforced concrete architecture.

Discover Mercer’s renowned ceramic tiles during these intimate, 45-minute tours of the castle’s unique rooms and artifacts.

Fonthill Castle is located at 525 E. Court St. in Doylestown. Tours will be offered between 5 and 7 p.m. Saturday and Monday. Reservations are required; visit mercermuseum.org/fonthillcastleeveningtours/. Tickets are $25 for adults, $20 for member adults, $10 for youth and $5 for children ages 5 and under.

Looking for the perfect Valentine's Day date activity? Whether it's with your significant other or your friends, River House at Odette's has the answer.

Join Moe Simmons of Wax N Scents studio for an evening of wine, food and scented candlemaking. The workshop is 6-7:30 p.m. Friday; tickets are $95 a person and include one, 14 oz. custom-scented soy candle per person; a glass of sparking wine; a cheese and fruit display; and a romantic, candlelit atmosphere.

Better than Ezra, the New Orleans-based rock band that rose to fame in the 1990s, and Grammy Award-winning Tonic will co-headline a show Friday at Parx Casino.

Join Sweet Occasions and Beauty and Braidzzz for a special evening geared toward children ages 3 and up. The event from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday will include cookie decorating (with sugar cookies from The Lucky Cupcake), hair braiding and music. LeLand Gantt brings his one-man show to the Zlock Performing Arts Center at Bucks County Community College in Newtown from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Friday. 

"Rhapsody in Black" explores Gantt's personal journey to understand and eventually transcend racism in America. It follows his life story from an underprivileged childhood in the ghettos of McKeesport to teenage experiments with crime and drugs to scholastic achievement and an acting career that land adult him in situations where he is virtually the only African-American in the room.

A live Q&A with Gantt will be offered after the show. This performance deals directly with issues of race and contains select instances of profanity and adult situations. Mature audiences are recommended. For tickets, visit bucks.edu/tickets/.

What says "Happy Valentine's Day" better than an evening of wine and treats? 

Sand Castle Winery in Tinicum will host a "Sweets for your Sweetie" tasting from noon to 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

The wine masters will take you through an educational and fun tasting of their 13 estate grown wines paired back to gourmet cheeses and charcuterie, pastries, and delicious sweets. Tickets are $40 and non-refundable; visit sandcastlewinery.com for more.

Crossing Vineyards and Winery in Upper Makefield will also host a Valentine's Day tasting event, with seatings at 1 and 3 p.m. Sunday.
