Handblown glass manufacturer Leone di Fiume is reporting an uptick in sales of scented candles as Father’s Day gifts this year, a change of course for products often associated with female consumers.

Several scents from the company’s Iconica collection are particularly popular with male customers according to the candlemakers. Men gravitate toward the Tobacco & Pelle  fragrance, as well as the Cannella and Grande Marron scents.

“Men today often take great care in their presence and appearance, and that is true about their fragrance and living spaces as well,” said Gozde Kristal Kadercan, marketing director at Leone di Fiume. “My husband, as example, loves our brands. He says, ‘Please take that tobacco scent home. I love that one.’”

The artisanal Tabacco & Pelle candle, which retails for $132, is made of mouth-blown glass done in a modern geometric design pattern. Featuring hand-painted artwork, the candle is engraved by Leone di Fiume craftsmen and craftswomen using diamond blades. The limited-edition fragrance features strong notes of tobacco and leather to create a masculine appeal with base notes of amber, patchouli and tonka beans.

The Cannella candle, which retails for $122, features rich notes of orange peel, red apple and cloves, with spiced cinnamon and pumpkin accents at the heart of the scent. The mouth-blown Grande Marron, which retails for $235, features a bark motif, symbolizing the “secrets of wisdom and a deep-rooted life,” according to Leone di Fiume. Its fragrance profile reveals strong notes of tobacco and leather with notes of amber, patchouli and tonka beans, creating a dark, masculine appeal similar to Tabacco & Pelle.

And while those scents are important to the brand,  the functionality of the pieces is just as important according to Yasemin Teka Arslan, daughter of Musa Teke, a well-known master glass blower and founder of Leone di Fiume.

“Each of our candles is a true work of art and function as unique home décor accessories with designs that are hand painted, sandblasted and fired in a kiln to create head-turning items that serve more than one purpose,” said Arslan.
