Large Velvet Pumpkins set of 3
Decorating for Thanksgiving is no easy task. A giant papier-mâché turkey, mini gourds everywhere, and a “Happy Thanksgiving” throw pillow? Yeah, no thanks. On the flip side, putting out your etched leaf napkin holders and calling it a day probably isn’t going to cut it either.
Color-wise, experts recommend not going overboard.
“Simple color palettes exude elegance, so pick two-to-three colors for your Thanksgiving décor and stick to it,” interior designer Darlene Molnar advises. “Orange is a traditional go-to when thinking about fall decorating, so try pairing it with white and adding touches of gold for a little glam or touches of greenery for a more rustic vibe.” This year, neutrals are also on-trend, whether in the form of a burlap table runner, or incorporated into autumnal wall art.
Hila Stern of HSB architecture & Design stresses that simple, small changes in your space can immediately give it a warm and elegant feeling.
”Adding colored fall leaves to a store bought bouquet gives it a personalized and unique look,” she shares. “I also love adding a whimsical element to the tablescape, something unexpected that will make our guests smile. For example, adding gilded pine cones between the flowers and candles.”
And a word to the wise for entertainers of all stripes: Set your table the day before the big day.
“Leave Thanksgiving day to cooking and remove the stress of prepping the table ahead of time. I always set the table well in advance,” says Anastasia Casey of The Identitè Collective and IDCO Studio. “It’s one of my favorite prep ‘chores,’ and by doing it the day before, I have as much time as I want to relax and create the perfect tablescape — no stress involved.”
